Sue Killam

Laura Thompson

I am writing a book about the towns in Massachusetts that are along the southern Vermont border. This includes North Adams and its main attraction, MASS MoCA, the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art where I was interviewing two of the women who were running important programs. As we talked, I took these pictures. The first in Laura Thompson, head of the education program. Then I talked with Sue Killam who was responsible for the performing arts.

I was sitting in a restaurant in North Hampton, Massachusetts when I noticed a lady at another table talking with a companion. As the light from the window washed over the lady’s face, she looked to me like a painting of a French aristocrat of an earlier century. I didn’t want to take her picture without her permission but felt sorry I missed what might have been a fine portrait; But, as she stood to leave, I called to her. She came over and I explained that I’d really like to take photograph her for the reason stated above. She seemed to relish the idea and went back to her table and resumed her earlier conversation. Here is the photo.

I placed these photos on my Portraits page
